ReBoot
The series entitled ReBoot is a re-representation of pop culture artefacts from the 1950's to 1970's. Appropriating a past coded surface (the doily) to question our emotional attachment to technology and how this generates a consumer demand and an environmental debt. All the items drawn were sourced directly from the kerb-side cleanup in Brisbane. Most are electrical items that have been replaced rapidly as technology manufacture is driven by the constant needs and wants of a consumerist society. This solo exhibit was undertaken while I was the artist in residence at the Historic Old Courthouse and was exhibited at Off the Kerb Gallery, Melbourne and the Swich Contemporary Art Space, Ipswich. The work entitled "Talk" was a finalist in the 2012 Sunshine Coast Art Prize.
