My work Gathered Momentum (2025, felt, embroidery and pins on fabric) has been selected as a finalist in the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards.
The title “gathered momentum” refers to the continued unfolding of the climate crisis and its impact on all species. The work incorporates wool and pins both soft (attractive) and painful (repulsive) elements which creates a texture similar to the taxidermy in the museum and refers to the complex relationship between humans and other animals. There are three birds wings featured in the work: Golden Shouldered Parrot, the Red Goshawk and the Plumed Frogmouth, all endangered and vulnerable Queensland birds. This is part of a series titled Bird Hide, which refers to the disguised viewing platforms in forests for viewing birds (without being seen) and also the idea of a preserved “hide” or taxidermy.
