All the works in Consumed are concerned with the environment and how it has been commodified and as a result, sacrificed for the sake of human consumption. The works all contain as subjects, representations of endangered or vulnerable flora, fauna and heritage places from Queensland and my home, Ipswich.
I’ve also incorporated a crochet style of drawing with designs based on pre-decimal currency. The cloth serves to represents old ideas and patterns of thinking that need to be addressed before real change on how we value our flora, fauna and heritage can be enabled. It also represents connections between those decisions made to produce financial gain and its cost to the environment and heritage.
